Gamers across Australia are probably aware by now that they are living under one of the most outdated classification systems in the world. Under current Australian law, games can only be rated up to a level suitable for a 15 year old, denying the average 30 year-old Australian gamer the right to experience games the way they wish. This system has many other problems as well, such as forcing mature, violent content into the hands of children and encouraging piracy, which hurts the burgeoning Australian games industry. www.r18games.com.au is a new site dedicated to campaigning for a change to the classification system in Australia. It is maintained by a game developer living in Western Australia, and is always kept up to date with the latest news concerning the Australian ratings system, and with information about what you can do to help bring about change. Subscribe to the feed and check out the Help section so you can get involved. It's time that the Australian classification system treated games and gamers with the respect they deserve. |
